So, we're, like, farmers now! As of yesterday. We hauled soil up to the second floor deck, filled the pots, planted seeds, watered them. No gloves, we got in there with our bare hands and were one with the soil. It was fun! We planted lettuce, carrots, and radishes. We'll plant the bell peppers and herbs when it's warmer. It was peaceful and easy. The sun was shining. Life was being nurtured. It was good.
Then MrMissT came home and said to Mom, "I have something for you." What he had was two boxes of plants. Eight lettuce plants, three tomato plants, sage, and fully mature basil. She was shocked. I was pissed. His "thoughtfulness" doubled our work and we had to use pots that were intended for other plants. Second time around, playing in dirt wasn't very exciting. And it's no longer "our thing." He's forced his way into yet another aspect of our lives. I don't even like sage! But we planted everything and will hope for the best. I sound childish, but he seeps into every crack of our lives with his oppressive fog and it's suffocating. In a sick way, I hope that our seedlings thrive and the plants he bought don't fare as well. That's horrible. No, I hope they all do well. So we can eat them. I just hope he doesn't inundate us with foliage again.
A certain friend has a bad habit of texting me obscenely early in the morning. He chooses to ignore the fact that I am no longer on Eastern Time. Luckily, I've learned to turn my phone off at night. This morning I turned it on around 9:00 and saw that he'd messaged me at 5:40. Oh dear. He saw Iron Maiden last night. That's cool, how was it? "Awesome. You'll never guess who was behind me." Who? "Your girl Lady Gaga." What?!?!!!! She was indeed there, as I remember the photo she posted on Twitter last night. He even got a picture of her. Wow, and I planted vegetables, went to the library, and stopped at the candy shop yesterday. Lady Gaga vs. tomatoes and Jelly Bellies. *sigh* He tried to make me feel better by pointing out that by growing my own food I will be healthier and will outlive him. This may be so, but it doesn't get me any closer to celebrities. >:/
Colored pencil has emerged as my medium of choice these days. The CPSA's Explore This! 7 Exhibition is truly inspiring. When I say inspiring, I mean it's a combination of "wow, I want to do that" and "wow, I should go hang myself in the closet." (Not really. Please don't freak out.) But I'm sticking with it! I draw every day and work with color, and add in some stippling just for fun. Van Gogh didn't start his career as an artist until he was 27, as am I. I want to draw everything, and I want to draw it now, but I do have time, and I will get there. Eventually.
My least favorite neighbors in the building moved out on Friday. I danced around the living room for 10 minutes. It's the little things in life, you know?
